In a fresh setback for the rapidly growing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), founder Abhijeet Dipke on Friday claimed that his personal Instagram account had been “hacked” and that he was unable to regain access to it. The claim came just as the satirical Gen-Z-led political group, which has gone viral over the past week, found itself facing disruptions across multiple social media platforms.
Dipke took to X to share the update, stating that he had lost access to his Instagram account and was struggling to recover it. He also tagged Meta in his appeal, saying he was unable to restore control over the handle despite efforts to do so. In a follow-up post, Dipke further alleged that the backup Instagram account associated with the Cockroach Janta Party had also been taken down.
Meta had not issued any official response or statement on the matter at the time of publication.
The development has triggered a wave of reactions online, particularly because the Cockroach Janta Party’s official Instagram account had amassed a massive following in a short span of time. Reports indicate that the party’s main Instagram presence had crossed 21 million followers, reflecting its explosive rise on social media and its resonance with a digitally active younger audience.
The social media disruption follows another blow to the satirical outfit earlier this week. On Thursday, the party’s official X account, operating under the username CJP_2029, was withheld in India. Users visiting the page were shown a notice stating that the account had been withheld in response to a legal demand in India, though no further details were publicly disclosed.
The Cockroach Janta Party was launched by Abhijeet Dipke in the aftermath of controversial remarks attributed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during a public interaction on May 15. The remarks, which referenced terms such as “parasites” and “cockroaches” in the context of unemployed youth, sparked widespread backlash and online debate.
Although the Chief Justice later clarified that his comments had been misquoted and were specifically aimed at individuals entering the legal profession with “fake and bogus degrees,” the backlash had already snowballed online. In response, Dipke launched the Cockroach Janta Party as a satirical digital movement, adopting the cockroach as its symbol and turning the controversy into an internet-driven campaign.
What initially began as satire quickly evolved into a viral online phenomenon. The party drew attention from activists, artists, politicians, influencers, and social media users across age groups, particularly resonating with Gen-Z and younger millennials. Its tongue-in-cheek membership pitch also contributed to its popularity, claiming people could join if they were “unemployed, lazy, chronically online, and able to rant professionally.”
Abhijeet Dipke, who describes himself as the party’s “founding president,” is a 30-year-old political communication strategist with prior experience in political campaign operations. He had previously worked with the Aam Aadmi Party and was involved in social media and election strategy efforts.
The alleged hacking of Dipke’s Instagram account and the removal of the backup handle now raise fresh questions about the future of the party’s digital presence, especially as it continues to attract attention and controversy online.
