A harrowing video has surfaced on social media showing performers fleeing in panic as flames erupted from the roof of a Goa nightclub, moments before the blaze claimed at least 25 lives. The incident occurred at Birch by Romeo Lane in North Goa’s Arpora late Saturday night.
The footage, reportedly recorded by a visitor, captures a woman belly-dancing to music as the fire suddenly breaks out from the roof. Performers and visitors immediately stopped and rushed out, while the fire rapidly spread across the venue. Background voices in the video can be heard shouting “aag lag gayi” (fire has erupted), adding to the chaos.
According to police, the first call regarding the incident came in at 12:04 am on Sunday. The fire tragically killed 25 people, including four tourists and 14 nightclub staff members.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant responded swiftly, ordering a magisterial inquiry into the incident. He also confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the nightclub’s owner and general manager, who are expected to be arrested. The FIR currently does not disclose the names of the accused.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, with initial reports suggesting it may have originated from electrical wiring. Rescue teams have been working through the night, and the government has assured strict action to prevent such incidents in the future.
This tragic event has sent shockwaves across Goa, raising urgent questions about safety measures in nightlife venues. The investigation is ongoing as families of the victims await answers and justice.
