Why Trump’s America is facing a $400 million-a-day government shutdown

The United States has once again been plunged into a government shutdown, the 15th since 1981, after lawmakers in Congress failed to secure a funding deal. The shutdown began on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, with thousands of federal employees furloughed and essential government services disrupted.

This time, however, the stakes are even higher. Trump has already launched a controversial campaign to restructure the federal government, with plans to cut 300,000 jobs by December.
