India Launches Pre-Emptive Strikes on Terror Camps After Pahalgam Attack, Warns of Further Threats

Foreign Secretary Misri reveals intelligence of more impending attacks; says India acted to dismantle terror infrastructure and prevent communal unrest

In a decisive response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, India has carried out pre-emptive strikes on terror infrastructure operated by Pakistan-based groups including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, addressing the media, revealed that India’s intelligence agencies had uncovered credible threats of further planned attacks on Indian soil, prompting immediate military action to dismantle these terror camps.

“The latest attack in Pahalgam has, understandably, generated deep anger in Jammu and Kashmir and in other parts of India,” Misri said. He further added, “Despite a fortnight having passed since the attacks, there has been no demonstrable step from Pakistan to take action against the terrorist infrastructure on its territory or on territory under its control. Instead, all it has indulged in are denials and allegations.”

India’s operation targeted strategic locations of terror groups not only across Pakistan but also in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). These strikes were launched after days of high-level security consultations and intelligence-based assessments, underscoring New Delhi’s resolve to strike at the root of terror threats rather than wait for another incident.

Misri pointed out that the modus operandi of the Pahalgam attack was carefully orchestrated to provoke communal unrest across the region, and the government acted to prevent escalation. “Our intelligence monitoring of Pakistan-based terrorist modules indicated that further attacks against India were impending. There was thus a compulsion both to deter and to preempt,” he said.

The foreign secretary emphasized that India exercised its sovereign right to defend its people and territory. “This morning, India exercised its right to dismantle terror infrastructure,” he declared, justifying the strikes as necessary for national security and regional stability.

The Indian government had already taken diplomatic measures following the attack, including summoning Pakistan’s envoy and suspending key engagement channels. However, Misri noted that military intervention became essential as no meaningful action was forthcoming from Islamabad.

As regional tensions flare, New Delhi’s message is clear: India will not hesitate to act first to protect its citizens and sovereignty from cross-border terrorism.
