Signboards of Delhi’s Akbar Road, Humayun Road defaced by ‘Chhava’ fans

Signboards at Akbar Road and Humayun Road in New Delhi were defaced on Saturday as a group of people allegedly pasted posters of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji after watching the Bollywood film “Chhava.” A video of the incident, which surfaced on social media, shows individuals spraying black paint on the signboards before placing the posters.

Delhi police were alerted soon after, and a team of officials was dispatched to restore the defaced boards. Authorities have launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage to identify those responsible. “We are monitoring the situation to maintain law and order and prevent further incidents,” a police official said.

Since its release on February 14, “Chhava” has sparked strong reactions among audiences. Social media has been flooded with videos of fans chanting slogans in praise of Chhatrapati Shivaji and his son, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

‘Chhava’ box office success

Directed by Laxman Utekar, “Chhava” stars Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The historical epic has become a major box-office hit, crossing ₹200 crore within days of its release. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed the milestone on Thursday.

Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the film’s impact, mentioning it at the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan. He praised Maharashtra’s contribution to Indian cinema and noted that “Chhava” is receiving widespread appreciation.

The film has been granted tax-free status in Goa and Madhya Pradesh. Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant hailed the movie for bringing the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj to the screen, calling his valor and sacrifice an inspiration.

With emotions running high among fans, authorities are keeping a close watch on further developments to prevent any escalations.
