Video Shows ‘Frightened’ Israeli Hostage Arbel Yehoud Being Handed Over to Red Cross by Hamas

In a tense and chaotic moment, video footage has emerged of Israeli hostage Arbel Yehoud being handed over to the Red Cross by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. The release of Yehoud, a 29-year-old Israeli soldier, was part of an ongoing ceasefire agreement that began on January 19, 2025, aimed at de-escalating the deadly conflict between Israel and Hamas. Along with Yehoud, six other hostages—another Israeli and five Thai nationals—were freed on Thursday. The Israeli army confirmed that the Red Cross had safely received them.

Netanyahu Condemns the Release Footage

Reacting to the video, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly condemned the manner in which the hostages were transferred, calling it a display of “unimaginable cruelty.”

“I view with great severity the shocking scenes during the release of our hostages. This is further proof of the unimaginable cruelty of the Hamas terrorist organization. I demand that the mediators ensure that such threatening scenes do not occur again, and to guarantee the safety of our hostages. Whoever dares to harm our captives—his blood will be on his head,” Netanyahu stated on X (formerly Twitter).

Hostage Release and Ceasefire Agreement

The truce, which has held for over 10 days, has allowed a temporary pause in hostilities and enabled humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. As part of the agreement, a total of 33 Israeli hostages are expected to be released in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. However, Israel has claimed that Hamas has provided information indicating that eight of these hostages were either killed in the October 7, 2023, attack or have died in captivity.

While the latest release offers hope for more hostage exchanges, tensions remain high as both sides navigate the fragile truce. The Israeli government continues to push for the safe return of all remaining hostages while seeking assurances that future exchanges will be handled with greater security and dignity.
