In a pointed statement, Vance criticized both Zelenskyy’s tone and the necessity of his visit to Washington, suggesting the Ukrainian leader’s presence served more as a political manoeuvre than a substantive effort to resolve critical issues. “We don’t need more lectures. We need a clearer explanation of why billions more dollars should go to Ukraine while Americans struggle with their own crises,” Vance said.

The Ohio senator, a vocal critic of unchecked foreign aid, has consistently raised concerns over the U.S.’s financial and military assistance to Ukraine since the start of the war in 2022.
