A 9-month pregnant woman in Gaza was killed during an Israeli airstrike, yet her unborn baby miraculously survived. The airstrike, part of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, has once again drawn international attention to the severe humanitarian crisis in the region.
The woman, identified as 27-year-old Amina Al-Masri, was in the final stages of her pregnancy when the airstrike struck her home in Gaza City. Despite the fatal injuries she sustained, medical personnel at Shifa Hospital managed to save her baby through an emergency cesarean section performed under extreme conditions.
Dr. Ahmed al-Khatib, who led the surgical team, described the procedure as one of the most challenging of his career. “Amidst the chaos and limited resources, our primary focus was to save the baby’s life. It is nothing short of a miracle that the baby survived,” he said. The baby, a girl, is currently in stable condition but remains under close medical supervision.
The airstrike, which targeted what Israeli military sources described as “Hamas military infrastructure,” resulted in several civilian casualties, including women and children. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for a ceasefire from international organizations and humanitarian groups.
In a statement, UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep concern over the escalating violence and the toll on civilians. “The loss of innocent lives, particularly that of a pregnant woman and the miraculous survival of her baby, underscores the urgent need for de-escalation and protection of civilians,” he said.

Amina Al-Masri’s family, grieving their loss, expressed a mix of sorrow and relief at the baby’s survival. “We are devastated by Amina’s death, but the survival of her child gives us a glimmer of hope in these dark times,” said her brother, Mahmoud Al-Masri.
