In a staggering turn of events in the world of collectible toys, a rare Labubu x Vans plush doll has sold for an eye-watering $10,585 on eBay, setting a new record for the most expensive Labubu item ever auctioned on the platform. Despite some fans publicly burning their Labubu figures out of protest or fatigue, the frenzy surrounding the brand continues unabated — especially for rare and limited-edition pieces.
According to a report by the New York Post, the plush doll in question was originally released in 2023 through a blind-box collaboration between Chinese collectible toy company Pop Mart and iconic skatewear brand Vans. The grey-brown plush Labubu was initially priced at just $85, but its recent sale shows just how far the brand’s appeal has grown. With the final bid reaching over $10,500, the toy’s value increased more than 125 times in under two years.
The high price wasn’t just about hype. Another report by Forbes stated that the doll gained significant attention due to its ultra-limited availability and stylish appearance. Dressed in trendy streetwear, the plush features classic Vans Sk8-Mid sneakers, a matching sweatshirt, and a blue-orange cap emblazoned with the phrase “The Monsters.” The auction attracted 96 competing bids, reflecting fierce interest and demand among collectors globally.
Labubu dolls, created by Hong Kong-based artist Kasing Lung, have become a global phenomenon. Inspired by Nordic mythology and fantasy, these quirky, toothy characters debuted as part of Pop Mart’s The Monsters series. They’re typically sold in blind boxes, meaning buyers don’t know which version they’ll receive, with most plushies priced between $20 to $40. This element of surprise, coupled with artistic design and rarity, has made Labubus a hot commodity in the toy-collecting world.
Even as some disillusioned fans have criticized the brand’s commercialization, high-profile sales like this one prove that the Labubu craze is far from fading. On the contrary, it appears to be entering a new phase of luxury-driven demand.
