Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed his anticipation for upcoming discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Donald Trump as he embarks on a diplomatic visit to both nations.
“Over the next few days, I will be in France and the USA to take part in various programs,” PM Modi stated before departing on his international trip.
Strengthening Ties with France
PM Modi’s visit to France, scheduled from February 10-12, comes at the invitation of President Macron. During his stay, he will co-chair the AI Action Summit, where India holds a significant role as a co-chairing nation. In addition, PM Modi and President Macron will engage in bilateral talks aimed at further strengthening Indo-French relations. The visit will also mark the inauguration of a new Indian Consulate in Marseille, reflecting India’s commitment to deepening diplomatic engagement with France.
Meeting with President Trump in Washington DC
Following his engagements in France, PM Modi will travel to the United States, where he will hold discussions with newly sworn-in President Donald Trump. Modi emphasized that his visit “will further cement India-USA friendship.”
PM Modi will be in the US from February 12 to 14, marking his first in-person meeting with President Trump since the latter assumed office for his second term. Their discussions are expected to cover a wide range of bilateral and global issues, reinforcing the strong partnership between the two nations.
A History of Engagement
PM Modi and President Trump have previously interacted on multiple occasions. Modi last visited the United States in June 2017, while President Trump made a state visit to India in February 2020. Additionally, the two leaders have held phone conversations twice in recent months—on November 6, 2024, and January 27, 2025—signaling continued collaboration and dialogue.
With this high-profile visit, PM Modi aims to strengthen India’s global partnerships and further strategic cooperation with two key allies—France and the United States.
