India commemorated the 25th anniversary of its landmark victory in the Kargil War with solemn ceremonies and patriotic fervour, as the Pakistan army observed the occasion from across the border. The celebrations, marking Operation Vijay’s success in 1999, highlighted the enduring legacy of the brave soldiers who defended India’s sovereignty against Pakistani intruders.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh. During the ceremony, he laid a wreath in honour of the 527 Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the high-altitude conflict. The event was attended by military officials, war veterans, and families of the martyrs, creating a poignant atmosphere of remembrance and respect.
In his address, PM Modi praised the valour and dedication of the Indian armed forces. “The Kargil victory is a testament to the unwavering courage and patriotism of our soldiers. The Kargil War, fought between May and July 1999, saw Indian forces reclaim strategically important peaks that had been occupied by Pakistani soldiers and militants.
