With Eid-ul-Azha scheduled to be observed on May 28, Delhi Police has stepped up security arrangements across the national capital, particularly in areas considered sensitive, as authorities work to ensure that the festival is celebrated peacefully and without any disruption to law and order.
Officials said elaborate precautionary measures have been put in place in multiple districts, including intensified patrolling, flag marches, preventive surveillance operations and the deployment of additional police personnel at key locations across the city. The move comes as part of Delhi Police’s annual festival security protocol aimed at maintaining communal harmony and public safety during large religious gatherings.
Police teams have increased their presence in several neighbourhoods, especially in crowded markets and sensitive localities, where preventive checks and surveillance have been strengthened. Officers have also conducted foot patrols to boost police visibility and reassure residents in the run-up to Eid celebrations.
One of the major components of this year’s security strategy is close monitoring of social media platforms and messaging applications. Dedicated cyber teams have been tasked with keeping a strict watch on online activity to prevent the circulation of provocative, inflammatory or objectionable content that could disturb communal peace.
According to police officials, particular attention is being paid to videos related to animal sacrifice, rumours, misleading posts and communal content that could trigger unrest. Authorities warned that strict action would be taken against individuals found spreading inflammatory material or attempting to create tension through online platforms.
Residents have also been advised to avoid conducting animal sacrifice in open public spaces and to strictly follow civic and government guidelines regarding sanitation, waste disposal and public order during the festival.
As part of confidence-building measures, Delhi Police has also been engaging with community leaders across districts. Coordination meetings have been held with religious leaders, mosque committees, imams, Aman Committee members, Nagrik Bhaichara Samitis and local civic representatives to discuss festival arrangements and encourage cooperation in maintaining peace.
In northeast Delhi, senior police officials chaired discussions focusing on communal harmony, public cleanliness, crowd management and preventing the spread of inflammatory online content. Similar meetings were organised in other districts as part of outreach efforts aimed at building trust and ensuring smooth festival observance.
In Dwarka district, police officials met more than 150 mosque imams and community representatives to review preparations related to crowd control, traffic arrangements and public safety measures. Officers appealed to community leaders to help curb rumours and misinformation while promoting peace and brotherhood during Eid-ul-Azha.
Delhi Police officials said district units have been directed to remain on high alert, maintain regular patrolling and coordinate closely with local representatives to prevent any untoward incident.
As part of the security arrangements, a flag march is also planned in Central Delhi from Ajmeri Gate Chowk near New Delhi Railway Station to enhance public confidence and maintain a visible security presence.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious person or object through emergency helplines. Officials reiterated that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure that Eid-ul-Azha celebrations are conducted peacefully across Delhi.
