BSF and Punjab Police foil terror plot in Amritsar, seize arms near India-Pakistan border

The Border Security Force (BSF), in close coordination with Punjab Police, successfully thwarted a potential terror plot near Bharopal village in Amritsar district, recovering a significant cache of arms and ammunition along the sensitive Indo-Pak border.

The operation was launched late Wednesday evening based on actionable intelligence received from the BSF’s Intelligence Wing. Acting swiftly, BSF troops and Punjab Police conducted a detailed search in the border area and discovered two hand grenades, three pistols, six magazines, and 50 live rounds of ammunition.

Officials confirmed that the recovered weaponry has been handed over to local authorities for further forensic analysis and investigation. This timely and coordinated action has not only prevented a possible major terrorist incident but also demonstrated the heightened vigilance and synergy between central and state forces in safeguarding India’s border regions.

A BSF spokesperson said, “This recovery highlights our operational readiness and the importance of seamless cooperation with Punjab Police. Our forces remain committed to securing the border and preventing any nefarious attempts by anti-national elements.”

The incident comes amid growing concerns over cross-border infiltration and the smuggling of arms in Punjab, which remains a high-risk zone due to its proximity to Pakistan.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies in Punjab continue to remain on high alert. Just days earlier, Amritsar witnessed a targeted shooting in Kathianwala Bazaar, where gangster Ravneet Singh alias Sone Mote was attacked by two unidentified gunmen. The police have launched an investigation and are reportedly following strong leads.

In another crackdown on organised crime, the Special Task Force (STF), in collaboration with Jhajjar police, arrested wanted gangster Kunal Joon. With 15 criminal cases to his name, Joon had reportedly escaped to Dubai using a fake passport and was allegedly planning to enter the U.S. to run his gang from abroad.
