2 Terror Suspects Arrested in J&K’s Shopian; Huge Cache of Weapons and Ammunition Seized

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir arrested two suspected terrorists in the Shopian district and uncovered a large cache of arms and ammunition. The arrests, made during a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, mark a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb militant activity in south Kashmir.

The operation was launched based on credible intelligence input regarding the movement of terror operatives in the area. Acting swiftly, a joint team cordoned off a location in the vicinity of Shopian town and carried out a search. During the operation, two suspects were apprehended with incriminating material and weapons.

According to the police, the seized cache included two AK-47 assault rifles, four grenades, multiple magazines, and several rounds of live ammunition. Preliminary investigation indicates that the arrested individuals were in active contact with handlers across the border and were planning attacks on security installations and soft targets in the region.

“The timely operation by our forces has thwarted a possible terror strike. We are investigating further to uncover the network behind these operatives,” said a senior police official in Srinagar. The identity of the arrested individuals is being kept confidential to prevent any compromise of ongoing investigations.

This operation comes amid heightened security alert across Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of recent threats from Pakistan-based terror outfits. Over the past few months, Shopian has seen a resurgence of terror activity with sporadic encounters and infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC).
