10 militants were killed in an intense encounter with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local security forces in Manipur’s Jiribam district. The encounter marks one of the largest anti-militancy operations in the region in recent times, as security agencies ramp up efforts to curb insurgency activity in the northeastern state.
The operation reportedly began in the early hours, when intelligence sources indicated the presence of armed militants in a remote area of Jiribam, close to the state’s border. Security forces, including CRPF personnel, swiftly mobilized to the location. According to officials, the militants opened fire on the advancing forces, prompting a retaliatory response.
“The security forces acted with precision to minimize collateral damage,” a CRPF official stated, emphasizing the importance of such operations to maintain stability in the region. “The entire area has been cordoned off, and additional forces have been deployed to ensure complete control over the situation,” he added.
Sources report that all 10 militants killed in the encounter belonged to a prominent insurgent group that has been responsible for recent violence and extortion activities. Although details about the group have not been publicly released, officials are investigating connections to similar insurgent networks operating across the northeastern states.
Manipur has been a focal point of insurgent activities for years, with several factions striving for regional autonomy or independence. The state’s complex geography and proximity to international borders make it vulnerable to cross-border militant movement, and insurgents frequently use this to their advantage.
In response to escalating violence, the government has bolstered its security presence in sensitive districts, with CRPF playing a crucial role in counter-insurgency efforts. Operations in regions like Jiribam underscore the renewed commitment of security forces to neutralize militant threats and restore peace.
The successful completion of this operation is expected to impact militant morale and serve as a deterrent to similar insurgent groups in the area. Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, while security forces continue their monitoring efforts.
