Opposition Defends Yunus Amid Hindu Targeting Claims in Bangladesh: ‘He is Secular, Won’t Allow Rift’

Over violence against the Hindu minority in Bangladesh, opposition leaders have come out in strong defence of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, asserting that he remains committed to secularism and unity. The statements follow rising tensions and accusations that minorities, particularly Hindus, are being increasingly targeted in the country.

The controversy began after a series of violent incidents in various parts of Bangladesh, where Hindu communities reported attacks on temples, homes, and businesses. The situation has drawn widespread attention and condemnation both domestically and internationally. In the wake of these events, some factions have sought to implicate prominent figures, including Yunus, in contributing to or failing to address the growing divide.

Critics argue that scapegoating Yunus diverts attention from the real perpetrators and the need for a comprehensive approach to protect minorities.

Human rights organizations and international observers have echoed the opposition’s sentiment, urging the Bangladeshi government to ensure the safety and rights of all citizens. They call for transparent investigations into the incidents of violence and stress the importance of upholding secularism as a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s identity.

Yunus, who is best known for founding the Grameen Bank and pioneering microfinance, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations. His supporters remain confident that his legacy of promoting inclusivity and economic empowerment will withstand these recent challenges.
