A fresh controversy has erupted after Donald Trump claimed that eight Iranian women protesters were spared execution following his personal intervention—an assertion strongly denied by Iranian officials.
Taking to his social media platform Truth Social, Trump announced what he described as “very good news,” stating that the women, who were allegedly scheduled to be executed, would no longer face death. According to his version, four of the women were to be released immediately, while the remaining four would instead receive one-month prison sentences. He also publicly thanked Iran’s leadership for what he framed as a positive response to his request.
Earlier, Trump had appealed directly to Iranian authorities, urging them to release the women and refrain from harming them, suggesting that such a move could serve as a constructive step in ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran.
However, Iranian officials quickly pushed back against the narrative. The Iranian Embassy in Sierra Leone issued a sharply worded response on social media, dismissing Trump’s claims as inaccurate and misleading. In what it called a “fact check,” the embassy stated that four of the women mentioned had already been free for weeks, while the remaining individuals were not facing execution at all.
The embassy’s rebuttal has fueled skepticism around Trump’s announcement, with observers questioning whether the situation was misrepresented or exaggerated. Reports citing human rights sources suggest that only one woman—identified as Bita Hemmati—may have actually been sentenced to death, further complicating the narrative.
Despite the growing doubts, the White House has firmly backed Trump’s statement. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt praised the former president’s role, portraying him as instrumental in saving lives and emphasizing his humanitarian approach. She also linked the development to broader diplomatic efforts, noting that a ceasefire between the United States and Iran remains in place, with negotiations ongoing.
The incident highlights the increasingly complex information battle surrounding US-Iran relations, especially during a fragile diplomatic phase. With tensions simmering over strategic regions like the Strait of Hormuz, competing claims and narratives continue to shape public perception.
As of now, there is no independent confirmation fully supporting either side’s version of events, leaving the truth behind the claims uncertain and subject to further scrutiny.
