The Philippines’ stance comes after reports surfaced of Chinese vessels preventing Filipino fishermen from accessing traditional fishing grounds near Scarborough Shoal. The shoal is located within the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), as recognized under international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
