US President Donald Trump on Thursday issued a stark warning to Iran, urging Tehran to finalize a “meaningful deal” with Washington or face serious consequences. Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the “Board of Peace,” a body formed by Trump to oversee stability in Gaza and the wider Middle East, the President made clear that the next 10 days would be decisive.
“It’s proven to be over the years not easy to make a meaningful deal with Iran. We have to make a meaningful deal, otherwise bad things happen,” Trump said, emphasizing that negotiations must occur within this short window. Without elaborating on potential US actions, he added, “You’re going to be finding out over the next probably 10 days.”
Trump stressed that Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons, asserting, “They can’t have nuclear weapons. They can’t have peace in the Middle East if they have nuclear weapons. They have been told that very strongly.”
The warning coincides with a significant US military buildup in the region. According to reports, the US has moved advanced F-35 and F-22 jets toward the Middle East and deployed two aircraft carriers—USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Gerald R. Ford—along with several warships. Analysts and US officials quoted by Axios have warned that military action against Iran could be imminent and may last for weeks.
Tensions remain high even as Geneva hosted a second round of talks between the US and Iran, mediated by Oman, aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear ambitions in exchange for sanctions relief. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also issued a stern warning, stating, “If the ayatollahs make a mistake and attack us, they will receive a response they cannot even imagine.”
With deadlines looming and military assets in place, the coming days could prove critical for the fragile balance in the Middle East.
