The United States, Egypt, and Qatar have been pivotal in mediating the truce over the past year. Qatar’s prime minister, who played a critical role in the negotiations, reportedly held separate meetings with delegations from both sides to resolve a last-minute dispute over security arrangements along Gaza’s border with Egypt. The agreement was finalized shortly after these talks, according to a Qatari official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The ceasefire comes after months of on-and-off negotiations, during which both parties faced recurring obstacles. Broad outlines of the deal had been in place since mid-2024, as reported by Reuters, but finalizing the agreement required overcoming significant hurdles.
