Former Prince Andrew, the brother of King Charles, has vacated his long-time residence at Royal Lodge in Windsor following the release of new documents connecting him to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. A royal source confirmed on Wednesday that the 65-year-old former prince has been relocated to a cottage on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, marking a significant moment in his ongoing fallout from the Epstein scandal.
According to reports, Andrew had hoped to remain at Royal Lodge for a longer period, but the latest revelations made it clear that a move was necessary. The Sun newspaper described his departure as “humiliating,” noting that he left under the cover of darkness on Monday evening. Friends of the former prince reportedly confirmed that the recent batch of Epstein files played a key role in convincing him that it was time to relocate.
King Charles stripped Andrew of his royal titles in October and emphasized that the move was necessary due to Andrew’s ongoing association with Epstein. The king also expressed his support for the victims of abuse, reiterating the royal family’s stance on accountability and justice.
The U.S. Justice Department released over three million pages of documents and approximately 2,000 videos related to Epstein, some of which include emails indicating that Andrew maintained regular contact with Epstein for more than two years after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for child sex crimes. Previously, Andrew had denied any wrongdoing or ongoing association with Epstein following the conviction, except for a visit to New York in 2010 intended to formally end their relationship.
While Andrew is now residing at Sandringham, sources suggest he may occasionally return to Windsor during a transitional period. The move underscores the intense scrutiny and pressure faced by the former royal in the wake of these newly revealed documents. Royal commentators say the relocation marks a symbolic and practical distancing of Andrew from the public eye, reflecting both the seriousness of the allegations and the royal family’s effort to protect its reputation.
The latest revelations have reignited public interest and media attention on Andrew’s relationship with Epstein, highlighting the continuing legal and personal consequences that have followed the former prince for nearly two decades.
