Sarwan Singh Pandher, representing the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, addressed the protest and asserted, “If anyone tries to be unfair with the farmers of Punjab, then farmers from Haryana will also join Punjab farmers. Farmers are united throughout the country.”
Pandher went on to explain that thousands of farmers had gathered at Devi Dasspura with their tractors and bikes to participate in the agitation, emphasizing their need for compensation following the extensive crop damage caused by the recent floods in North India.
“The agitation has been called by 18 unions in North India. Home Minister Amit Shah came to Amritsar and promised to enact an MSP guarantee law, but the committee has not yet been formed. The cases registered during the Delhi agitation have not been withdrawn,” Pandher stated.
He continued, “The families of farmers who lost their lives have not received the compensation and job assurances promised to them. The victims have not received justice in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. We are demanding INR 50,000 crore as compensation for the floods. Drugs supplied through drones are not being checked at the borders. The protest is against the central government.”
To manage the situation, a substantial police presence has been deployed, as confirmed by Police official Balvir S Ghuman.
The farmers’ blockade reflects their escalating frustrations with the government’s response to their demands and the pressing issues facing the agricultural community in Punjab.
