“In Dr. Manmohan Singh’s passing, we have lost a leader who was the epitome of wisdom, nobility, and humility, serving our nation with unparalleled dedication,” said Gandhi. She highlighted how Singh’s compassion and vision transformed the lives of millions of Indians, cementing his legacy as a luminous guiding light for the Congress party and the country.
Manmohan Singh, a celebrated economist and statesman, passed away at AIIMS, Delhi, at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife and three daughters. He is widely credited with spearheading India’s economic reforms in 1991, a watershed moment in the country’s development trajectory.
Gandhi emphasized that Singh’s intellect and moral integrity earned him respect and admiration globally. “Respected and admired by leaders and scholars worldwide, he was hailed as a statesman of immense wisdom and stature. Dr. Singh brought brilliance and distinction to every office he held, bringing pride and honor to India,” she said.
Calling his death a deeply personal loss, Sonia Gandhi reflected on his enduring commitment to social justice, secularism, and democratic values. “He was gentle in his manner but resolute in his convictions. Spending time with him was enlightening, moving, and awe-inspiring due to his humility and integrity,” she added.
Prominent leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, paid tribute to Singh, lauding his immense contributions to India’s progress. His last rites are scheduled for Saturday.
