In a powerful statement, Asha Devi, the mother of Nirbhaya, the 2012 Delhi gang-rape victim, has called for the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Asha Devi expressed her disappointment with Banerjee’s governance, particularly in addressing law and order issues, which she believes have spiralled out of control under her leadership.
Speaking to reporters, Asha Devi remarked, “Mamata Banerjee has failed to handle the situation. The safety and security of women in West Bengal are at risk, and it is time for her to step down.” Her comments come in the wake of recent incidents of violence and alleged mishandling of crime cases in the state.
Asha Devi has been a vocal advocate for women’s rights and justice since the tragic death of her daughter, Nirbhaya, in one of the most horrific crimes in India’s history. Her voice carries significant weight in the ongoing national discourse on women’s safety.
