Key highlights of the expansion include:
1. **Increased Coverage Limit:** The annual health insurance cover under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) has been increased from ₹5 lakh to ₹7 lakh per family. This aims to provide greater financial protection against medical expenses, particularly for serious and chronic illnesses.
2. **Inclusion of Additional Beneficiaries:** The scheme will now cover an additional 50 million individuals, focusing on marginalized and vulnerable populations. This expansion is expected to significantly reduce out-of-pocket expenses for medical treatments.
