Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon Governors to act as ‘effective bridges’ between the Centre and states, underscoring their pivotal role in fostering cooperation and ensuring seamless governance across the nation. In a significant address at the Governors’ Conference held in New Delhi, PM Modi highlighted the unique position of Governors in India’s federal structure, urging them to leverage their roles to strengthen Centre-state relations.
“Governors are the custodians of our Constitution in their respective states. They have a crucial responsibility to facilitate better coordination and understanding between the Centre and state governments,” PM Modi stated. He emphasized that the harmonious relationship between different levels of government is essential for the holistic development of the country.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Governors, with their extensive experience and understanding of state affairs, can play a decisive role in ensuring that central policies are implemented effectively at the state level. “You are the link that connects the aspirations of the states with the objectives of the Centre. It is through your proactive engagement and intervention that we can achieve our collective goals,” he added.
PM Modi also addressed the importance of Governors in addressing regional issues and concerns, advocating for a more inclusive approach to governance. He urged them to engage with local leaders, communities, and stakeholders to foster a sense of national unity and progress.
“Governors should work towards reducing the gaps and bridging the divides between the Centre and states. Your role is not just administrative but also symbolic, representing the unity and integrity of our nation,” he remarked.
The conference also saw discussions on various national issues, including the implementation of central schemes, enhancing state-level governance, and promoting cooperative federalism. Several Governors shared their insights and experiences, contributing to a comprehensive dialogue on improving Centre-state relations.
