Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the AI Action Summit in Paris, underscored the need for investing in skilling and re-skilling individuals to prepare for an AI-driven future. He acknowledged that job loss is one of the most feared disruptions of artificial intelligence but pointed out that history has shown work does not disappear—it only changes in nature.
“We need to invest in skilling and re-skilling our people for an AI-driven future,” PM Modi stated, highlighting the shift in job roles rather than complete employment loss. He co-chaired the summit alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, advocating for responsible AI development that enhances global trust and transparency.
PM Modi also emphasized the need for democratizing technology and creating applications that prioritize people. “We must develop open-source systems that enhance trust and transparency. We must build quality data centers free from biases and address cybersecurity threats, disinformation, and deepfakes,” he said.
AI’s rapid development and deployment across borders require collective global efforts, Modi added. He called for global governance and standards that uphold shared values, address potential risks, and foster trust in AI systems.
The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of AI in transforming industries such as healthcare, education, and agriculture, particularly in the Global South. “Governance is about ensuring access for all, especially in regions where capabilities are most lacking, whether it be in power, talent, or data. AI can help transform millions of lives and accelerate sustainable development goals,” he said.
The summit saw global leaders and tech experts discuss the ethical implementation of AI, with PM Modi urging collaborative efforts to build an AI ecosystem that prioritizes inclusivity, fairness, and security. His remarks reinforced India’s commitment to leading AI development with a focus on transparency and ethical innovation.
