Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani on Tuesday strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms, including cross-border terrorism. The two leaders agreed to enhance cooperation to combat this growing menace through bilateral and multilateral mechanisms.
A joint statement issued after their discussions emphasized the “importance of dialogue and diplomacy for peaceful resolution of international disputes.” The visit, which took place from February 17 to 18, reinforced the long-standing friendship and strategic cooperation between India and Qatar. Both leaders expressed optimism about deepening this partnership to benefit the people of both nations while contributing to regional and global stability.
Strengthening Security and Counterterrorism Efforts
The leaders acknowledged the growing threats posed by terrorism and committed to working together to curb extremist activities. As part of this commitment, India and Qatar will enhance cooperation in intelligence sharing, capacity building, law enforcement coordination, and combating transnational crimes such as money laundering, drug trafficking, and cybercrime.
With digital threats on the rise, the discussions also touched upon cybersecurity measures. Both sides agreed on the need to prevent the misuse of cyberspace for terrorism, radicalization, and disruption of social harmony.
Expanding Economic and Diplomatic Ties
Apart from security concerns, PM Modi and the Amir of Qatar held wide-ranging talks on trade, investment, technology, and energy. India and Qatar enjoy strong economic ties, with Qatar being a crucial supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to India. Discussions also focused on deepening business partnerships and increasing people-to-people exchanges.
The two leaders also shared views on global and regional developments, underscoring their shared commitment to stability and cooperation. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that both nations aim to strengthen diplomatic collaboration to tackle global challenges effectively.
The high-level talks marked a significant step forward in India-Qatar relations, reaffirming a mutual commitment to peace, security, and economic prosperity.
