NTA to Re-Conduct UGC-NET Exams for English, Commerce and Sociology After Multiple Errors

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that it will re-conduct the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) examinations for three subjects after receiving several complaints regarding “multiple errors” in the question papers used during the June 2026 examination cycle.

According to the notification issued by the NTA on Sunday, the affected subjects are English, Commerce and Sociology. The agency said it received multiple complaints concerning errors in the papers and subsequently constituted a committee to examine the issues raised by candidates.

The UGC-NET examination for these subjects was originally conducted as part of the wider examination schedule held between June 22 and June 30, 2026. Following complaints from candidates, the NTA decided to conduct fresh examinations for the three affected subjects.

The agency said the English and Commerce papers will be re-conducted on September 9, while the Sociology examination will be held on September 10.

“In respect of three subjects, namely English, Commerce and Sociology, NTA had received several complaints on multiple errors in these papers,” the agency said in its notification. It added that a committee was formed to enquire into and examine the reported errors.

The decision means that candidates who appeared for the affected papers will have to take the examination again according to the revised schedule. The move is expected to affect a significant number of UGC-NET aspirants who had already completed the examination process in June.

UGC-NET is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for Assistant Professor positions and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. The examination is conducted by the NTA on behalf of the University Grants Commission.

The announcement comes after candidates raised concerns about the quality and accuracy of the question papers. By ordering a re-examination, the testing agency has sought to address the complaints and ensure that candidates are assessed through a corrected examination paper.

Candidates appearing for the re-examination are advised to keep track of further announcements from the NTA regarding examination centres, admit cards, city intimation slips and other logistical details. The agency is expected to issue additional instructions ahead of the September examinations.

The re-conduct of the three papers also highlights the importance of accuracy in national-level competitive examinations, where even errors in question papers can affect candidates’ scores, rankings and eligibility.

Candidates who appeared for English, Commerce and Sociology in the June examination should therefore check the official NTA notifications regularly and make preparations for the revised examination dates.
