The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a crucial notification regarding the admissions process for NEET UG 2025, providing essential updates for aspiring medical students. The notice was released following a public announcement made on January 16, 2025, which outlined the examination format and its implications for various medical courses.
According to the latest notification, the NEET (UG)-2025 examination will be conducted in a pen-and-paper format (OMR-based) on a single day and in a single shift. This decision has led to some controversy, as it appears to sidestep key recommendations made by a high-level committee last year, which suggested exploring alternative examination methods.
In addition to confirming the examination’s format, the NTA clarified that the NEET UG 2025 scores and merit lists will also be utilized for admissions to Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Bachelor of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (BVSc & AH) courses. This aligns with past practices governed by the respective regulatory bodies overseeing these fields. The announcement aims to ensure that candidates are fully informed about the scope of the NEET UG scores for various medical courses.
Furthermore, the NTA emphasized that, in accordance with the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Act, 2020, there will be a uniform NEET (UG) examination for undergraduate admissions in disciplines such as Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS), and Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS). The NEET UG examination will also apply to admissions for the Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) course.
For aspirants of the Military Nursing Service (MNS) seeking admission to the B.Sc. Nursing courses at Armed Forces Medical Service Hospitals for 2025, qualifying for the NEET UG is mandatory. The NEET UG score will be instrumental in shortlisting candidates for the four-year B.Sc. Nursing program, highlighting its importance in various medical fields.
As NEET UG 2025 approaches, candidates are encouraged to stay updated on any further announcements from the NTA regarding the examination process and admission criteria to ensure they are well-prepared for this crucial step in their medical careers.
