Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh on Saturday lauded the enduring camaraderie between the armed forces and local communities, highlighting the state’s tradition of mutual respect and harmony. Addressing a statewide ex-servicemen rally in Aizawl, Singh, a decorated retired general, praised veterans for their courage, devotion to duty, and disciplined conduct, calling them “living embodiments of selfless service.”
The governor emphasized that Mizoram’s ex-servicemen rank among the “smartest” in the country, describing their exemplary conduct as a model for others to follow. “This is the epitome of how an ex-serviceman should conduct himself,” he said, reflecting on the sacrifices made by personnel who often spend long periods away from their families in challenging terrains to safeguard national security.
Singh welcomed the launch of a dedicated medical camp and grievance redressal cell for veterans, aimed at assisting them with pensions, welfare schemes, and resettlement. He expressed optimism that these initiatives would have a lasting positive impact and announced plans to expand such medical facilities in the near future.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to veterans and their families, the governor invoked the Mizo ethic of “Tlawmngaihna,” which emphasizes selfless service and concern for others, urging society to treat veterans with dignity and care.
Mizoram Home Minister K Sapdanga also attended the event, commending the dedication of ex-servicemen who prioritize duty above all else. He encouraged the youth to draw inspiration from their service and strive to become responsible citizens.
During the ceremony, honours and assistance were presented to nine ex-servicemen, the family of one gallantry award recipient, and five Veer Naris, recognizing their contributions and sacrifices for the nation. The rally stood as a testament to the strong bond and trust between civilians and armed forces personnel, showcasing Mizoram’s unique culture of respect, goodwill, and mutual cooperation.
