The Uttar Pradesh police have arrested Dev Prakash Madhukar, a close aide of the renowned religious figure Bhole Baba, in connection with the deadly stampede that occurred in Hathras. The tragic incident, which took place during a religious gathering, resulted in multiple fatalities and left several others injured.
Dev Prakash Madhukar, who is considered the main accused in the case, was apprehended by the authorities early this morning. The stampede happened when a large crowd, gathered to receive blessings from Bhole Baba, surged forward uncontrollably. Preliminary investigations suggest that poor crowd management and lack of adequate safety measures led to the chaos.
Witnesses reported scenes of panic and confusion as devotees tried to flee the overcrowded area. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene, but the densely packed crowd hampered rescue operations. The victims, many of whom were elderly and children, were rushed to nearby hospitals, where the death toll unfortunately rose.
Authorities had launched a manhunt for Madhukar, who had been absconding since the incident.
