Landslide Hits East Sikkim, Severely Damages NHPC Power Project on Teesta River

In a devastating event, a massive landslide struck East Sikkim on Tuesday, causing significant damage to the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Teesta-VI power project. The landslide, triggered by heavy monsoon rains, occurred in the early hours, leading to the blockage of critical access roads and cutting off several remote villages in the region.

The landslide has severely impacted the Teesta-VI power project, one of NHPC’s key infrastructure developments in the region. Preliminary reports suggest that parts of the project site, including construction equipment and temporary worker shelters, were buried under tons of debris.
