Indian Navy intensifies Arabian Sea operations after Pahalgam terror attack

In a decisive response to the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam—which left 26 security personnel dead—the Indian Navy has significantly stepped up its operational presence in the Arabian Sea within India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). This move comes as part of a broader strategy to reaffirm India’s maritime deterrence and ensure coastal security amid rising regional threats.

According to defence sources cited by news agency ANI, Indian warships have been placed on high alert. These vessels recently carried out multiple anti-ship and anti-aircraft missile tests, marking a crucial step in validating combat readiness across the naval fleet. The exercises are being viewed as both a show of strength and a strategic message aimed at potential adversaries.

On Sunday, the Indian Navy officially confirmed the successful execution of several long-range anti-ship missile firings. A spokesperson posted on X (formerly Twitter):

“Indian Navy Ships undertook successful multiple anti-ship firings to revalidate and demonstrate readiness of platforms, systems and crew for long-range precision offensive strike. Indian Navy stands Combat Ready, Credible and Future Ready in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests Anytime Anywhere Anyhow.”

Parallel to the Navy’s operations, the Indian Coast Guard has deployed vessels near the international maritime boundary off the Gujarat coast. These units are working in close coordination with the Navy to enhance maritime domain awareness and ensure swift detection of any hostile activity.

Adding further weight to India’s show of strength, the Navy’s most advanced guided missile destroyer, INS Surat, successfully carried out a test of the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MR-SAM) system. The missile intercepted a sea-skimming target, demonstrating the Navy’s capability to defend against modern aerial threats. Defence officials stated the MR-SAM system provides a reliable shield against both surface and air-launched attacks.

These maritime drills coincide with reports of Pakistan Navy’s planned missile testing in the Arabian Sea, further escalating tensions in the region. Defence analysts interpret India’s increased naval activity as a calibrated move to establish dominance in critical sea lanes and convey its resolve in safeguarding national security interests.
