India-Pakistan tensions soar after Pahalgam terror attack kills 26

Tensions between India and Pakistan have sharply escalated following a deadly terror attack in the Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The attack, which took place over the weekend, has drawn widespread condemnation across India and has put bilateral relations with Pakistan under severe strain.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the gruesome attack. Indian intelligence and counter-terrorism agencies have identified the group as a front for LeT, which has a long history of orchestrating violence in the Kashmir Valley.

In response, the Indian government has taken stern diplomatic steps against Pakistan. Official sources indicate that New Delhi summoned senior Pakistani diplomats to lodge a formal protest, accusing Islamabad of harbouring terror networks that continue to destabilize the region. India also reiterated its demand for concrete action against terror groups operating from Pakistani soil.

Meanwhile, tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) have flared once again. On the night of April 29, Pakistani forces reportedly violated the ceasefire agreement for the fifth consecutive night, targeting Indian forward posts and civilian areas. The Indian Army responded with heavy retaliatory fire, maintaining a firm posture along the volatile frontier.

Military officials confirmed that the ceasefire violations were aimed at providing cover to terrorists attempting to infiltrate into Indian territory. “Such violations are not only provocative but a direct threat to peace and stability in the region,” said a senior defence spokesperson.

The recent developments have reignited concerns about the fragile nature of India-Pakistan relations, especially in the aftermath of major terror attacks. The Centre is closely monitoring the situation, and security has been heightened across sensitive zones in Jammu and Kashmir.

As diplomatic channels remain tense and military alertness stays high, the future of any meaningful peace process between the two nations seems increasingly uncertain.
