High Alert in Delhi as India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate After Drone and Missile Attacks

In the wake of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, the national capital, Delhi, was placed under high alert on Friday. Heavy security deployment was observed at vital installations and public spaces after Pakistan launched a failed attempt to strike Indian military targets using drones and missiles on Thursday night.

According to a senior Delhi Police officer, security has been beefed up around key government buildings, courts, foreign embassies, sewage and water treatment plants. Paramilitary personnel have also been deployed to support Delhi Police across sensitive zones.

Public areas with high footfall—including markets, shopping malls, parks, railway stations, and metro stations—are being monitored closely. All Delhi Police personnel had their leaves canceled late Thursday evening, and night patrols have been significantly intensified.

“Extra forces are being deployed in every sensitive area. Vigilance is at its peak. We are not taking any chances,” the officer said. In addition, bomb disposal squads have conducted anti-sabotage sweeps at numerous strategic points.

All vehicles entering Delhi are being subjected to thorough checks at various entry points. On roads like Mathura Road, security personnel have been seen checking both vehicles and the identities of drivers. Special Commissioners from each zone are coordinating with their Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to review security protocols.

“All DCPs are personally monitoring law and order. Delhi Police is fully prepared to deal with any scenario,” said a senior police source.

This surge in security comes after India swiftly thwarted Pakistan’s attempted strikes on military installations in Jammu, Udhampur, and Pathankot. The Indian defence ministry stated that the Pakistani military had tried to target 15 locations, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Bhuj, and Chandigarh.

These retaliatory actions from Pakistan follow India’s precision strikes on Wednesday under ‘Operation Sindoor’, where Indian armed forces destroyed nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation was conducted in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed multiple lives.

With border tensions escalating, Delhi remains on high alert, and authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety of its citizens.
