An Indian Army jawan has been arrested for the murder of his girlfriend, a crime that police believe was inspired by the 2015 crime thriller Drishyam. According to authorities, the jawan fatally attacked his girlfriend during an argument and later attempted to hide his tracks by burying her body under a layer of cement, mimicking a plot device from the film where a crime is meticulously concealed.
The incident came to light after the victim’s family reported her missing. A police investigation soon led to the Army jawan, whose erratic behaviour and conflicting statements raised suspicion. Upon further questioning, he reportedly confessed to the crime and led investigators to the site where the body had been buried beneath a freshly laid cement slab in his residence.
Sources within the police department revealed that the suspect had become obsessed with the idea of committing the “perfect crime,” believing that by following the steps laid out in Drishyam, he could escape detection. However, forensic evidence and careful investigative work quickly unravelled the plot.
The murder has sent shockwaves through the community and raised fresh concerns about the influence of crime-themed films on impressionable individuals. Psychologists caution that while movies like Drishyam are works of fiction, they can sometimes inspire criminal minds to believe in unrealistic notions of eluding the law.
As the investigation continues, the Army has issued a statement confirming that they are cooperating fully with the authorities and that the suspect will face the full extent of the law.
