The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged a political conspiracy orchestrated by the Central Government and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to arrest Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The accusation comes just days before a significant Supreme Court hearing that could have major implications for the governance of the national capital.
Senior AAP leaders addressed a press conference on Tuesday, asserting that they had credible information regarding the conspiracy. “There is a concerted effort by the Centre, using the CBI as a tool, to fabricate charges against our Chief Minister with the intention of arresting him,” said AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj. “This is nothing but a blatant misuse of central agencies to target political opponents and undermine the democratic process.”
The allegations have sparked a fresh political controversy, with AAP supporters taking to social media and the streets in protest. Kejriwal, known for his anti-corruption stance and confrontations with the Centre, has frequently been at odds with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government.
The Supreme Court is set to hear a crucial case involving the powers and jurisdiction of the Delhi government vis-a-vis the Lieutenant Governor. This legal battle, which has seen numerous twists and turns, is pivotal for the functioning of the AAP government.
Political analysts suggest that the timing of the alleged conspiracy is critical. “If Kejriwal is arrested, it could lead to significant political unrest and questions about the fairness of the judicial process,” said political commentator Neerja Chowdhury. “It could also be seen as an attempt to destabilize the Delhi government ahead of the Supreme Court hearing.”
The BJP, however, has dismissed AAP’s allegations as baseless and a diversionary tactic. “AAP is trying to create a narrative of victimhood. There is no conspiracy, and the law will take its own course,” stated BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra.
The CBI has yet to issue an official statement in response to the allegations.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on the Supreme Court’s proceedings and any potential developments regarding Kejriwal’s status. The political climate in Delhi remains tense, with the possibility of further escalation in the coming days.
