The United States and Iran’s conflict intensified on Tuesday as Israeli airstrikes targeted Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport, marking the fourth day of hostilities. Videos and images from the scene revealed thick smoke rising from the airport, suggesting significant damage to the facility.
Mehrabad Airport, located in western Tehran, is one of Iran’s largest aviation hubs, handling the majority of domestic flights alongside selected international and official operations. Its strategic position within the Iranian capital makes it a critical target in the ongoing conflict. Israeli authorities reportedly issued evacuation warnings to nearby residents ahead of the strikes, underscoring the calculated nature of the attacks.
The Israeli military also launched airstrikes on Iran’s southern port city of Bushehr, destroying an Iranian carrier stationed on the ground. Additional evacuation threats were issued for industrial areas in Tehran and the Payam Airport in Karaj, according to Al Jazeera.
In a swift retaliatory response, Iran launched missile and drone strikes targeting central Israel, particularly the Tel Aviv region. Israeli emergency services and first responders reported treating twelve injured individuals, with shrapnel impacting multiple districts. The Israeli military confirmed that several impact sites were under assessment and that the situation was being closely monitored.
The escalation follows the reported killing of Ali Khamenei, which has prompted Iran to intensify operations against both Israeli targets and US assets across the Middle East. A drone strike also hit the US embassy in Riyadh, causing a fire and minor damage, while the US embassy in Kuwait temporarily suspended operations.
US President Donald Trump signaled that military operations against Iran could extend over a month, emphasizing that the United States is prepared for a prolonged conflict in the region. Analysts note that both sides are increasingly targeting strategic infrastructure, raising concerns about wider regional instability and potential disruptions to global energy markets.
With the conflict now entering its fourth day, international observers continue to monitor the escalating tension between Iran, Israel, and the United States, as both sides carry out strikes on high-value targets while civilian areas face growing risks.
