Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to congratulate him on the progress made under the Gaza peace plan. The conversation came at a significant moment, as Israel’s security cabinet was in session to discuss the ceasefire and hostage-release agreement brokered as part of the US-backed initiative.
According to a statement released by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Netanyahu paused the high-level security cabinet meeting to personally take the call from Modi. The talks between the two leaders centered on the agreement that includes the release of hostages held in Gaza and expanded humanitarian aid to civilians in the war-torn region.
Just a day earlier, Modi had also spoken with US President Donald Trump, commending his role in advancing the peace framework for Gaza. India has consistently supported diplomatic efforts that seek to bring stability to West Asia while maintaining its strong stance against terrorism.
“Called my friend, Prime Minister Netanyahu, to congratulate him on the progress made under President Trump’s Gaza peace plan. We welcome the agreement on the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza. Reaffirmed that terrorism in any form or manifestation is unacceptable anywhere in the world,” Modi posted on X.
The Israeli PMO’s statement highlighted Modi’s words of encouragement, noting that the Indian Prime Minister “congratulated Prime Minister Netanyahu on the agreement reached for the release of all the hostages.” Netanyahu, in turn, expressed gratitude for India’s support at a time of intense diplomatic negotiations and security concerns.
The call underscores India’s growing diplomatic involvement in the Middle East and its efforts to balance strong bilateral ties with Israel, robust relations with the United States, and continued engagement with the Palestinian cause. Modi’s remarks also reinforced India’s longstanding foreign policy principle of rejecting terrorism while backing humanitarian relief efforts in conflict zones.
As global powers continue to push for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, Modi’s outreach to both Trump and Netanyahu highlights India’s position as a supportive partner in international peace initiatives.
