According to the health ministry, a teenage boy tragically lost his life when a window frame fell on him. The ministry also stated that 24 individuals had been hospitalized but were not in life-threatening condition, while 138 others were treated for various injuries.
Despite the incident, international flights continued to operate as usual at the capital’s airport, according to the airport administration.
Videos and photographs on social media depicted flames leaping into the night sky, accompanied by a substantial smoke hovering above the warehouse. However, the precise cause of the explosion remained unclear.
The emergency ministry established a specialized laboratory at the site to investigate the blast and provided updates on the situation through the Telegram messaging app. They reported that the fire’s extent was being reduced thanks to the swift response of emergency personnel, asserting that “the situation is completely under control.”
Uzbekistani news outlet Daryo revealed in a social media post that 16 fire and rescue teams were dispatched to combat the blaze at one of the warehouses situated in the Sergeli district, near the airport.
