A little-known McDonald’s outlet in Chicago is quietly dishing out a slice of India—and it’s creating quite the buzz. Dubbed the Global Menu Restaurant, this location has added the beloved Indian McAloo Tikki burger to its rotating selection of international flavors, according to a report by the New York Post.
The McAloo Tikki, known for its crispy potato-and-pea patty and Indian-style seasoning, has been a staple on McDonald’s menus in India since its debut in 1998. But in the U.S., it’s something of a rare gem—only available at this specific Chicago location, and only until June 23.
The McAloo’s brief stint has already captured the attention of Indian Americans and vegetarians alike. Tanmay Dhuri, a visitor of Indian origin, shared with Axios that the burger brought back memories: “It’s not just about taste—it’s nostalgic. We’ve all grown up with it.”
Priced at $5.99 (around ₹512), the burger is part of McDonald’s Global Favorites menu, which rotates international items from countries like Spain, South Korea, and now, India. And while it’s a limited-time offering, its popularity is unmistakable. According to Axios, one enthusiastic customer reportedly ordered 30 McAloo Tikkis in one go.
An Axios food reporter noted the burger’s authenticity, saying, “It’s always refreshing to have a veggie burger that’s made of real vegetables—not just soy fillers.”
The burger’s growing buzz also underscores how global fast food chains are localizing their offerings to cater to diverse palates and nostalgic cravings.
Whether it’s the unique taste or the comforting reminder of home, McAloo Tikki is clearly making waves far from Indian shores.
