Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Iranian President Masoud Peezeshkian on Friday confirmed that several countries had initiated mediation efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel. Speaking publicly, Peezeshkian stressed Tehran’s commitment to achieving lasting peace in the region while also underscoring Iran’s readiness to defend its national dignity and authority.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, the Iranian President said, “Some countries have initiated efforts for mediation. Our response to them is clear: we are committed to lasting peace in the region, but we have not the slightest hesitation in defending the dignity and authority of our country.” He further clarified that any mediation should focus on those he accused of instigating provocations against Iran. “The audience for mediation should be those who, by underestimating the Iranian people, ignited the fire of provocation,” Peezeshkian added.
The remarks come as the conflict intensifies across West Asia. On Friday, Israeli warplanes reportedly launched a heavy bombardment on Tehran, marking one of the most severe attacks on Iran’s capital since the conflict began last week. Eyewitnesses described the strikes as exceptionally intense, shaking homes across the city. This offensive follows a series of nationwide strikes by Israel and the United States, targeting Iran’s military installations, senior leadership, and nuclear program.
In response, Iran has continued its retaliatory operations, launching missile and drone attacks against Israel as well as several Gulf countries, including Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. Many of these countries host US military bases, making them strategic targets amid the broader confrontation. Qatar reported intercepting a drone attack aimed at Al Udeid Air Base, which houses the forward headquarters of the US Central Command. Saudi Arabia also confirmed it had destroyed three ballistic missiles launched toward Sultan Air Base south of Riyadh.
While Peezeshkian’s comments indicate a willingness to engage in diplomatic efforts, Iran maintains a firm stance on defending its sovereignty. The situation continues to evolve rapidly, with both military operations and diplomatic initiatives shaping the trajectory of the regional conflict.
