Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez tied the knot in what many are calling the “wedding of the year,” hosting a three-day celebration in Venice, Italy, that glittered with the presence of A-listers and global business tycoons. Despite local protests over rising wealth inequality, the Amazon founder and award-winning journalist went ahead with their lavish plans, reportedly spending tens of millions on the ceremony.
The festivities began on Friday, June 27, and wrapped up on Saturday, June 28, with a grand finale featuring performances by music legends Elton John and Lady Gaga at a historic medieval shipyard. Guests included billionaire Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Brady, Orlando Bloom with model Vittoria Ceretti, and members of the Kardashian-Jenner clan including Kim, Khloé, Kendall, Kylie, and Kris Jenner.
Sources indicate the total cost of the wedding may have soared past $50 million. Originally estimated between €20 and €30 million ($23–$34 million), the final figure rose to between €40 and €48 million ($46.5–$55.6 million) following a last-minute venue change due to security concerns, as reported by Reuters and USA Today.
The bride, 55-year-old Sánchez, stunned in a custom high-necked Dolce & Gabbana gown featuring 180 silk chiffon-covered buttons and a romantic tulle-and-lace veil, according to Vogue. The entire affair was a spectacle of style, wealth, and high-profile reunions, even as it sparked criticism from activists calling for Bezos to pay more taxes.
Bezos, 61, and Sánchez first went public with their relationship in 2019, shortly after announcing separations from their previous partners. Bezos shares four children with ex-wife MacKenzie Scott, while Sánchez co-parents two children with ex-husband Patrick Whitesell and has a son with former NFL star Tony Gonzalez.
Though intensely private about some details, the couple’s wedding has become a symbol of luxury and spectacle in the age of billionaire romance.
