India is all set to formally join Pax Silica, the flagship United States-led initiative designed to build secure global supply chains for semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, officials familiar with the development said. The signing is scheduled for Friday, marking a significant step in efforts to restore and strengthen India-US relations after a period of trade tensions under the Trump administration.
The move comes amid broader efforts by both nations to finalise a bilateral trade agreement and advance initiatives aimed at repairing ties strained by tariffs and policy disagreements. US Ambassador Sergio Gor, who arrived in New Delhi in January, had earlier confirmed that India would receive an invitation to join Pax Silica. India’s initial exclusion from the initiative, launched in December 2025, had reportedly caused concern in New Delhi.
Following the formal signing of the Pax Silica Declaration, Ambassador Gor will meet with Jacob Helberg, US Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, to discuss further cooperation. Pax Silica already includes nine member countries: Australia, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Qatar, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates, the latter having joined just last month.
US officials describe Pax Silica as a multilayered partnership aimed at strengthening supply chain security, mitigating “coercive dependencies” and “single points of failure,” and advancing the adoption of trusted technology ecosystems. Participating countries will explore flagship projects across the global technology stack, including next-generation connectivity such as 6G, data centers, advanced manufacturing, logistics, mineral processing, and energy sectors.
The US has positioned Pax Silica as an “economic security coalition built for the AI age,” focusing on silicon, minerals, and energy as shared strategic assets. The initiative envisions deep cooperation across supply chains—from raw materials to semiconductors and AI infrastructure—while promoting mutual prosperity and security among member nations.
In its declaration, Pax Silica emphasises that reliable supply chains are vital for mutual economic security and that AI represents a transformative force with long-term implications. The framework commits members to trustworthy systems and collaboration, aiming to safeguard both economic and technological interests in an increasingly complex global landscape.
India’s entry into Pax Silica signals its growing role in the global AI and semiconductor ecosystem while strengthening strategic and economic ties with the United States and allied nations.
