On Monday, the inaugural Joint Services Staff Talks between Japan and India began in Tokyo.
The Joint Staff of Japan and the Integrated Defence Staff of India held the discussions, in order to enhance the interoperability and comprehension of one another’s armed forces with this other significant debates were held.
Air Vice Marshal Ashish Vohra served as the delegation’s leader from India. At the headquarters of the Japanese Ministry of Defence in Ichigaya, the Japanese side was commanded by Joint Staff General Yoshida Yoshihide, the country’s chief of staff.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership during a recent bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi, according to the office of Prime Minister Modi.
The PMO statement said, “During the discussion, the leaders acknowledged the fruitful dialogue the two countries had throughout the year regarding their priorities for their respective G20 and G7 Presidency, notably in putting the worries and aspirations of the Global South to the fore.
“Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership,” the PMO statement further said.
The PMO statement also mentioned that the leaders had discussions about the development of infrastructure, technological cooperation, investments, and energy as part of their bilateral relationship with Japan.
Prior to that, Japan and India had their second Deputy NSA Strategic Dialogue and explored ways to improve their partnership in terms of defense and economic security.
India’s Deputy National Security Advisor (NSA), Vikram Misri, and Japan’s Deputy Secretary General, Keiichi Ichikawa, shared leadership of the meeting.
During the conference, leaders from the two nations agreed to increase their cooperation in the areas of economic security, critical and emerging technologies, and defense. They also discussed regional and international trends.
