A violent confrontation unfolded in Chicago’s Brighton Park on Saturday after a woman, identified through her social media name as “La Maggie,” allegedly attacked Border Patrol agents. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the suspect had already been under scrutiny for doxing federal law enforcement officers online.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin confirmed that “La Maggie” was mentioned in a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) intelligence bulletin circulated last week. The bulletin warned about an armed woman who had been posting personal details of federal agents online, raising concerns about threats to their safety.
Images shared by the DHS showed that the woman had reposted material from a page called ICE Sighting – Chicagoland. Her online profile reveals little personal information beyond noting that she is single, resides in Chicago, Illinois, and has 144 friends on Facebook.
The Chicago incident
Providing details of the attack, McLaughlin explained that law enforcement agents were conducting routine patrols in the greater Broadview area when their vehicle was suddenly rammed and boxed in by around ten cars. Agents were unable to move their patrol car and were forced to exit.
One of the drivers involved, identified as the same woman named in the intelligence bulletin, was reportedly armed with a semi-automatic weapon. Law enforcement responded by firing defensive shots. The woman, a U.S. citizen, later drove herself to a hospital to receive treatment for her injuries.
McLaughlin emphasized that no law enforcement officers suffered serious injuries during the clash. However, she criticized local authorities, stating, “Unfortunately, JB Pritzker’s Chicago Police Department is leaving the shooting scene and refuses to assist us in securing the area.” She noted that a crowd began forming at the scene, forcing DHS to deploy special operations teams to maintain order.
DHS response
The DHS has condemned the rise in hostility directed toward Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and CBP officers. “Comparing ICE day-in and day-out to the Nazi Gestapo, the Secret Police, and slave patrols has consequences,” McLaughlin warned. “The violence and dehumanization of these men and women who are simply enforcing the law must stop.”
She concluded by calling for public support for law enforcement officers and their families, stressing that DHS will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
