American Airlines CEO Robert Isom has addressed the devastating mid-air collision between an American Eagle regional jet and a Black Hawk military helicopter, which left at least 19 people dead. The tragic accident occurred on Wednesday night when the PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700, carrying 64 people, crashed into the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
In a video statement shared on the airline’s website and social media, Isom expressed deep sorrow over the incident. “First and most importantly, I’d like to express our deep sorrow about these events. This is a difficult day for all of us at American Airlines,” he stated.
Airline’s response and investigation efforts
Isom reassured the public that American Airlines is fully cooperating with authorities and prioritizing the well-being of passengers, crew members, and their families. “Our efforts now are focused entirely on the needs of our passengers, crew members, partners, first responders, along with their families and loved ones,” he said.
He also confirmed that the airline is actively working with local, state, and federal authorities on emergency response efforts. “We’re cooperating fully with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in its investigation, and we’ll continue to provide all the information we can,” Isom added.
The airline’s dedicated care team is assisting affected families, while a team of highly trained professionals is working around the clock to provide necessary support. “Our team will be working to support our passengers, crew, and their families however we can, and we’ll update you as soon as we can. Thank you,” Isom concluded.
Raising concerns over aviation safety
The mid-air collision has reignited concerns over aviation safety and airspace management, particularly near high-traffic zones like Washington, DC. The NTSB has launched an in-depth investigation to determine the cause of the crash, and officials are reviewing air traffic control communications and flight data records.
As the aviation industry reels from the tragedy, the focus remains on ensuring accountability, strengthening safety protocols, and supporting the families affected by this heartbreaking incident.
