Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar: adequate representation of women in Parliament

Vice President Dhankar questioned whether the Constitution’s use of the word “Chairman” was gender inclusive.

“The word ‘Chairman’ was utilised when our Constitution was created. I can affirm that a woman may assume this position because I am the nation’s vice president and the chairman of the Rajya Sabha. But it reads ‘Chairman’ in the Constitution,” Dhankar replied.

Dhankar further mentioned that this custom had been changed thanks to his leadership, saying, “When we take any man or woman in the panel, who sits on my chair and runs the House, we do not call him Chairman, we say, Panel of Vice-Chairperson.” The Vice President claimed that the Chandrayaan-3, Chandrayaan-2, and Aditya-L1 space missions, which brought honour to India, were driven by strong women with “vision and scientific temper.”

Dhankar added that since women make up “50% of it,” they must contribute to the development of the country.

In his speech about taking pleasure in our achievements, the vice president noted that India’s per-capita data consumption exceeded that of the USA and China combined in 2022. Consequently, we should be proud to be Indians.Prioritising our country’s interests must always be a priority. We should be proud of our historical accomplishments.

Dhankar commented on the New Education Policy, stating that it was a turning point and a significant milestone in the education system that required the cooperation of all stakeholders. We now have new opportunities as a result.

The vice president advised the female pupils to “never be stressed. If you have an excellent idea, act on it right away without holding it back for fear of failure. No one has ever succeeded in arriving at the moon for the first time.
