Early metro service to aid security personnel on duty for G20

Delhi Police Commissioner, Sanjay Arora, has written a letter to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director, Vikas Kumar, requesting him to begin Metro services in the capital city at 4:00 am on September 8, 9, and 10, as doing so will make it easier for police officers involved in the security arrangements for the G20 summit to commute.

According to the letter, “The police and other support workers will be considerably assisted if the Metro Services on the 8th, 9th, and 10th may commence from about 0400 hrs., given the traffic limitations in the venue-affected districts, which are predominantly NDMC and South West District areas being put in place. This will allow workers to travel without difficulty and report on time to the two important locations, IECC/ITPO and Rajghat.”

The Commissioner of Police in a letter, further stated, “Since the arrangements at the Summit Venue of G20 including IECC, ITPO and Rajghat shall begin from early morning hours, the reporting time for staff for these venues has been kept from 0500 hours onwards.” 

Arora continued by saying that due to the G20 summit taking place in the nation’s capital, the Delhi Police, in cooperation with other stakeholders, has prepared intricate security, law and order, and traffic arrangements that would go into full-scale deployment starting on September 7.

“May I kindly request you to kindly consider the request from Delhi Police and make necessary arrangements accordingly, as a welfare measure for staff of Delhi Police and other assisting agencies, for the duration…,” the Commissioner wrote.

Nuzhat Hassan, Special Commissioner of Police (Transport Division), was also highlighted by Arora as being accessible for any clarifications or other details needed to implement this request.

The G20 Summit will be held in New Delhi, India, from September 9 to 10. For the G20 Summit, world leaders will travel to New Delhi. The state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, will host the summit.

Notably, India took over the G20 presidency on December 1 of last year, and 60 cities throughout the nation hosted 200 G20 sessions.
